What He Wore on Wednesday

Neither Cruz nor I woke up on the right side of the bed this morning.
It took us awhile to get going.
Me: two glasses of lemon water, breakfast and some dance numbers in the kitchen.
Cruz: A whole banana and some kitchen pilfering.

Cruz rocked one of the new birthday shirts from his Gram B.
Robots!

One of the best parts of having a personal training studio in your home is that there is always something to entertain the baby.

Watching the airplaines go by...

All smiles

Before bed, Cruz rocks some striped jammies and a comb-over.

Saying night-night to Dada!

And night-night to you!

What He Wore on Wednesday

Some things in life are made all the more special because of their rarity.
Birthdays.
Diamond rings.
Best friends.
Rainy mornings.

But of course, some friends in the house didn't understand why they weren't being released for outdoors times.

While the rain came down, Cruz struck a pose in his dino jams.

We live near the airport, and Cruz discovered that he can watch the airplanes take off from our bedroom window.
I love the wonder in his eyes!

Today he's wearing a football shirt on the one day of the week there's no football.
That football is a Sunday game is a lie told to unsuspecting wives all over this country.
I'm on to you, Football.

Just so you know, it's not always rainbows and cupcakes around here.
We often see this face:
The injustice of wearing pajamas!

When Cruz goes to sleep, he grabs his paci and does a face plant into the crib.
It's hilarious.

Goodnight, friends!

What He Wore On Wednesday

Hi sweet friends!
Welcome to our warm, warm Wednesday.
These two are finally making peace and becoming friends.
They sat by the back door this morning begging to go outside for our morning romp.
How cute is that? And how cute are those starship jammers?
As Cruz crawled toward the soccer ball, a beam of light fell on him.
Destiny?
This is absolutely one of my most favorite shirts!
It's actually from a set of pjs, but it's way too cute not to wear out.
Oh, by the way, when did my little guy turn into a toddler?
He looks so old!
A little relaxin' before bedtime... Cruz loves nothing better than just hanging out in his diaper. As soon as he gets his clothes off, he goes nuts!
Trying to settle down for bed in his soccer jammies.

Night-night!

Our Day Out

Tovi was away on Saturday, nerding out over fantasy football
so Cruz and I had a play day all to ourselves!
"Cruz-man," I mused as we drove down the 101,
"What would it be like to live in a town with a Target?"
Delightful, that's what it would be like. De. Light. Ful.

We were Target bound and ready for a good time!

I am often amazed at the power my boy has over other people.
{And don't go around thinking that I think this is exclusive to Cruz; he's simply my own personal case study.}
A family in front of us in line was fighting, as families are known to do.
(No judgement here!)
They noticed Cruz behind them and stopped their argument to be able to chat with him.
The mom and I talked about baby clothes while the dad and kids crowded around the stroller.
Cruz kicked and babbled and even gave them a goodbye wave.

"Job well done, little man!" I patted him on the head and went in search of a treat for my little peacemaker.

Here's a tip from one thrifty mom to another:
Babies can't tell the difference between pet stores and zoos.
We looked at frogs...
at snakes...
This was my favorite snake.
A young couple brought their puppy into the store, which essentially made this trip the best day of Cruz's life.
He kept shrieking, "Dah! Dah!"
Does this mean "dog" will be his first word?

Cruz also says "mamamama" when he wants more of something.
This is not a good precedent.

Then home again, to play with our own "dah."

{We got some great baby clothes at Target! Can't wait to show you on some future Wednesday. Preppy boys clothes just make me love the fall that much more!}

What He Wore On Wednesday

People often ask me how many pictures I take in order to get all the shots I need on Wednesdays.
A lot.
Like, a lot a lot.
I am no photographer, Martha!
Here is a sample of a shot that would normally not make the cut:
Here is my question-- how is one supposed to take a picture at 6am when the lighting is kind of beautiful but not really great for picture taking?
I have many, many friends who are professional photographers.
If only I could jump into your brains for awhile and learn how you make your magic.

Here is how we've been finding Cruz in the morning:
He began chewing on the crib rails, so I bought a gummy crib-rail-protector.
Mr. Future Mechanic, however, laughs at my efforts and simply works his way under the protector and chews it all.
What are you gonna do.
Well, what we do is step outside for some fashion shots!
Love these prisoner jammies... love his smokey glare.

Today we discovered that Cruz has been growing some curls!

I don't think you'll be surprised to learn that this is just one of many soccer kits Cruz owns.
And he looks good in all of them.

I wasn't home to put Cruz Man to bed, but let's all pretend that he looked dashing.
I hope your week has been full of blessing, friends.
With love!

What He Wore On Wednesday

Wednesday Friends, Cruz and I are back after being Down For The Count over the last few days.
Needless to say, this isn't going to be the most fashion-y post ever.
But it's still pretty cute.
My little scholar!
If you think these jams are dirty here, you should have seen them after I let Cruz crawl around the backyard all morning.
Ha.
No, no you shouldn't have seen them.
During middle school, my girlfriends and I read a Seventeen magazine article about "icy blue and chocolatey brown" being the hottest color combo for the season.
I don't really know why, but something about that struck our funny bone.
Was it because they tried to sexy up two super normal (boring) colors?
Was it because the idea of a color combo being hot is kind of ridiculous?
Was it because fashion was not the high point of the mid '90s?
Who knows. But Cruz is definitely rocking some icy blue and chocolatey brown today.

I have a feeling that I'll be taking a lot of action shots from now on.
Whenever I place Cruz on the ground and then get in position to take a picture, I hear a "slap slap" of little paws hitting the ground and then I get a big faceful of this:

I love everything about this picture.
The sweaty nap hair.
The bum and belly that are straining against the clothes.
The Andy Bernard dress alike contest that Cruz is apparently entering...

Time to say goodnight!
Regular kisses from me, and slobbery open-mouth kisses from Cruz...

What He Wore On Wednesday

Cruz Lovers, this is not the outfit he wore to bed.
Yes, we had a jammie change at 4am.
In fact, to minimize the time we were awake, I changed his pjs while he nursed.
It is my single greatest feat of motherhood so far.

And a good morning to you!

Enjoying a playdate at the swings.
(Those pants used to be so long on him!)

Relaxing with some sportswear.

I hope you can see the sheer mess he made eating chicken and squash tonight.

As much as it has complicated my life, I can't get over the sight of Cruz standing up! He is so strong and independent. Not to mention curious and fearless.
So often I want to keep him little...
But my heart swells seeing him grow like this.

And this one, for the love.
I can only think of cheesy things to write with this photo, so I'll quit while I'm ahead.
XOXO to you all!

What He Wore On Wednesday

It's Wednesday... ladies...
These jammies were my faves when Cruz was a tiny lad of the 0-3 month range.
And now we have them in 9-12 month size. Swoon!
It seems like everyone on both sides of our family has been to visit Brazil this summer.
We have not.
I guess I'm feeling saudades for the motherland, so Cruz is rocking his Brazil jersey from Auntie Amy and Uncle Parker.
And also rocking some Blue Steel.
We think anytime is a good time for Cheerios.
Doncha think so?
Hanging out in mommy and daddy's room before bed.
Cruz and I have invented a hilarious game where he sucks on his paci...
And then I snatch it away and suck on it!
He's about to lunge at my face here.
I am absolutely going to regret inventing this game.

Well, that's all the Wednesday I have for you today.
xoxo/Becca

What He Wore On Wednesday

Happy Wednesday, Cruz Lovers!
Take a gander at this young man.

So big, right?

I just love this early morning light.

Cruz loves reading his books.
And by reading, of course, I mean flipping through the pages energetically and occasionally giving them a loving chomp.

Cruz has learned how pull himself up.
I love that I caught this moment.

"Whoa! What's back here?"

"Let me get a little closer..."

"I'm awesome."

Enjoying a pre-bedtime wrestle.

Goodnight!
